Another day, another controversy in the fashion world. If it isn't one fashion house suing another, or yet another photoshopping scandal (ahem, Victoria's Secret), then it's ad campaigns being complained about for one reason or another.
American Apparel has had its fair share of scandal surrounding its ad campaigns, but they have steered clear of this so-called scandal. Miu Miu has come under fire for the above campaign, as many people believe the model in the advert (23-year-old Kasia Struss) is 'too thin' and as a result, the advert should be banned as it promotes others (presumably impressionable young people) to be 'irresponsible.'
These accusations even seem ludicrous to the Advertising Standards Authority, which says a lot as they are usually quick to get on the banning bandwagon so to speak, as they have banned Diesel's Be Stupid Campaign and Beyonce's steamy Heat commercial.
The ASA revealed in a statement that they did not deem the advert to be any more 'irresponsible' with the representation of skinny models than any other advert, and that they believed the lighting, make-up, outfit and photoshop were all factors contributing to Struss appearing as thin as she did.
Thoughts?
